Sessions with Grace & Knots Photography are about slowing down, connecting with your loved ones, and soaking in these moments that go by much too quickly. It is taking the time to appreciate long embraces, the giggles of your littles, their curiosity, and playfulness. It’s a time to just be. No phones, no social media, just being with your loved ones.

These sessions are not your typical family portrait session. I won’t ask you to look at me and say, “cheese!”, nor will I ask you to all sit perfectly. You can expect me to ask you to get in the sand and play with your kids, love on your partner, snuggle up, kiss your baby, and just take a deep breathe as you soak in the moment.

Family photos are not a time to be stressed, worried, or feeling on edge. I know this can be quite a challenge as a parent, so, my job is to help you slow down a bit and remember just what it is you love about your beautiful family and have fun!

Once you have completed the contact form, you’ll receive a welcome email full of great information. Once you decide I am the photographer for your family, we’ll discuss your hopes for this session, your family’s story, and what matters most to you. We’ll go over available dates and some locations that may be best suited for your family.

From there, you’ll receive your contract, invoice, and will be required to pay the 40% non-refundable creative fee to secure your date. This fee will be applied to your remaining session balance that will be due 7 days prior to your shoot.

We’ll stay in touch and about four weeks prior to your session, we will start discussing styling options and any other details to finalize the session plans. But no matter what, I am always a quick email away anytime you are in need of assistance! Including an opinion on an outfit you are considering!

Of course!! Styling and location assistance are the best part of the process! Together, we will chat about what you’re dreaming of for your session and work to put together the right look for your family and the location decided on. You’ll receive a style guide shortly after booking, and we may even have a zoom coffee date to chat about anything on your mind for this session.

All galleries are delivered within four weeks of the session date. While each image is edited in-house rather than being outsourced, this allows time to make sure your gallery is truly a work of art. You’ll receive an email giving you access to your online gallery where you can download images for storing, sharing, or to have printed at your favorite photo lab.

Location plays a huge factor in this, but typically sessions take about an hour to hour and a half if hiking is required to the right area. The great news is I work fast while still providing you with a gorgeous gallery full variety.

All sessions are time sensitive due to lighting as outdoor shoots are done during golden hour leading into blue hour. Shoots inside the Dole Mansion and studio are typically morning as the lighting is best in the studio at that time.

Yes!! Traveling and exploring is everything! We only live once, right? I’d be more than happy to travel to your neck of the woods or meet you at an incredible destination, including local ones such as the Stone Farmstead in Dane County, WI or the beaches of Door County, WI.  My bucket list includes just about anywhere! So let’s adventure!!

**Travel fees may apply such as lodging, car rental, and flight. Should there be more than one session booked in that area, costs will be split, so grab your bestie and let’s do this thing!

Mother Nature in the midwest is well, unpredictable at times. While our weather is predicted to be one thing, the reality is, plan for anything! So, with outdoor sessions, if it’s pouring rain, tornadoes are in the forecast, blizzard…we’ll reschedule. A cloudy or windy day is a dream to shoot in with the amount of emotion and movement it adds to a session, so we’re going for it! If your session is scheduled to take place in studio or within the walls of the Dole Mansion, we will only reschedule due to weather if there are severe warnings. Your family’s safety is the most important thing. I prefer you not travel if the there are tornado warnings or blizzards.

We are all very tired of thinking about this, but Covid is still a real thing, still impacting our loved ones, and still a concern. So here’s the deal, while I am fully vaccinated, and you may or may not be (no judgement here!), if your family is ill or you have concerns that you may have been exposed to Covid, it’s okay, we’ll reschedule. In fact, I appreciate it when clients let me know anyone is ill (flu, strep, covid…any of them) and willing to reschedule. My goal is to protect your family as well as my own, so just keep me posted!

For family sessions, the best time to book is about 2 months in advance. Maternity sessions, contact me about mid-second trimester. We’ll want to get you scheduled for when you are about 32 to 36 weeks along in your pregnancy. This gives us amble time to work out details, work on styling, and really make this a stress-free time for your family.

I get it, mini sessions are crazy popular! They are the perfect go to for many families looking to send out Holiday Cards, but here’s the thing. Your family is worth more of my time than the 15 minutes a mini session takes. Storytelling sessions encourage so much more than a quick “Everyone look at the camera and say, ‘cheese!'” I’ve found these sessions create more a rushed and chaotic feel, leaving a lack of connection, emotion, and an incomplete story. This is not what I wish for your family. The sessions offered result in slowing down, soaking up the moments with your family, and really giving a chance to tell your story in a much more relaxed manner.

Located within the walls of a historic mansion, where art and history collide full force, as of June 2022, you will find a small studio with the name “Grace & Knots Photography” at the door.

The Dole Mansion was built in the 1860’s for Charles Dole, a prominent grain boron and ice harvester. The home highlights many Civil War architectural features that to this day, leave a hauntingly dramatic feel to any image. In 1922, the mansion was purchased for $500,000 by Eliza Ringling. During the Roaring Twenties, this mansion was transformed into a members-only club, the Crystal Lake Country Club.

Today, this stunning building houses a rich history, possibly a ghost or two, and a unique space for a the community to gather and celebrate the arts. The Dole features photographers, healing and beauty services, visual and preforming artists, and musicians. Needless to say, this is a location full of life and creativity! Think Charles Dole and Eliza Ringling would approve?
